Cherry Class – Term 6
July 19, 2024
Cherry Class started the term celebrating World Ocean Day and bringing our work on Who Swallowed Stanley to an end. The children made some lovely jellyfish, octopuses, Ocean posters and number bond sea creatures in class. They discussed the importance of keeping our oceans clean and we all made a personal pledge for what we could do to look after our oceans.
We also had the fantastic maths event where the children got to experience a little bit of maths play in each of the year groups. They really enjoyed seeing what maths can look like a little further up in the school.
The children also got to enjoy a lovely Fairies and Fables workshop where the children joined a real life fairy in a task to save all of the fairytales from an evil queen, it’s safe to say everyone became fully emerged in their roles!
For this term’s WOW day, the children started by ‘catching a flight’ to Kenya, to introduce our new book ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance”. We closed our eyes and had a listen to different pieces of music and many different animal sounds. We had fun making animals masks and exploring the drums.
We also celebrated Tinkering Tuesday, where we collected junk modelling materials to build a boat that safely transported our small world African animals across the water without Sinking. This was a huge success for us!
Cherry Class were all champions for their fantastic efforts on sports day! They applied all that they have been learning since September into their activities such as balancing, running and ball skills. The children took turns beautifully and they maintained a high level of positive energy all afternoon.
One of the highlights this term has to be our trip to Bristol Zoo Project. The children loved seeing all of the different African animals that they have been learning about through their key text ‘Giraffes can’t dance!’ They saw two beautiful giraffes, zebras, geladas, a red panda, many lemurs, ostriches, goats, antelopes and even cheetahs! They were a joy to take on the trip and everyone brought a positive attitude to the day.
Towards the end of this term, all of the children in the school got a chance to enjoy a huge climbing wall in the school grounds. Every member of Cherry Class had a go on the wall and a few even made it to the top (twice!). It was very impressive indeed.
We finished off the term celebrating Olympics week at Broomhill. The children in Cherry had the best time using the laser guns, climbing through tunnels and hurling themselves onto the crash mats! Cherry Class are a very active bunch indeed.
