Broomhill Infant School

Crazy Hair, Builders, Papayas & Sunflowers!

March 27, 2021

It has been a busy fortnight in Sycamore Class.

We have been Scientists!
After visiting the polytunnel in the first week of term we had a go at planting sunflowers in our outdoor area. We worked together to find the perfect places to put our flower pots and have been looking each day to see if any shoots are ready to appear!

We enjoyed raising money for Comic Relief by coming to school with crazy hairstyles!

We have been Writers, learning a new Talk for Writing story called ‘The Papaya That Spoke’.
Here is the story map we created as a class. I wonder if you can have a go at retelling the story and can include the Makaton signs we learned?

We have been Mathematicians, doing lots of practical activities to help us learn new things.
Year 1 have been making equal groups, doing some repeated addition and finding out how to make arrays. Year 2 have been learning about fractions and trying to find 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 of different shapes or amounts.

We have been very excited to have a peek at the building work taking place in our outdoor learning areas. We had a sneak peek at the work so far and then came up with some questions we would like to ask the builders about the work. We interviewed them to find out how long the project would take to complete, which materials they were using and what each member of the team did.

We have lots of fun Easter activities planned for the final week of term next week and can’t wait to share our learning with you!
