Science Week!

April 12, 2023

We had a lovely week during Science Week, where we planted Sunflower seeds and recorded our experience in our sunflower diary and we also completed a crazy yeast experiment!

In Year 2, we have been focusing on observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants and finding out and describing how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. We loved planting our own sunflower seeds and recording our experience in our very own sunflower diary. We couldn’t wait to take them home to continue looking after them and to watch the seed develop into a beautiful sunflower.

We have a lot of children with green fingers in Fir Class. What amazing gardeners you all are!

As a class, we carried out a super fun experiment which involved adding yeast to different temperatures of water in bottles to see which mixture would make the balloon grow in size. We predicted the hottest water would help the balloon grow in size and our prediction was correct. Fir Class found this experiment extremely fun and wanted to try this experiment at home.
