Our own innovated story of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

October 15, 2021

This week we explored creating our own versions of the story in our play. One afternoon the children were convinced they had seen a bear living in the roleplay shed (lovingly

known as the ‘hat shed’ to many of the children this year).  After staking the shed out for over half an hour we decided to write him a letter as some of the children had remembered their visit from Suzie (the mum from the story) during a hot seating activity earlier in the week where the bear had turned out to be a friendly bear!

They asked Debi to write them a letter, telling her exactly what to write then took it in turns to sign the letter. Then left it in the shed for the bear. They went back to look for it soon after but it had disappeared! They were so shocked they knew that the bear must be close by so went looking for him everywhere! They were determined! They went over things… under things…. and through things but they couldn’t find the bear anyway. They wouldn’t give up though and in the end they found lots of teddy bears that they played with all afternoon.

At story time however they had a big surprise!!!!! There was a big knock at the door and Bob the Bear had come to visit. He told them all about how he was asleep one day when a family scared him by shouting ‘BEAR!!!!’ and that he was so scared that he chased them all the way home. In the end though they all made friends and had honey and banana sandwiches. So that is what we did too! And they were yummy!
