Tinkering Tuesday and Exploring Art through Nature!

July 1, 2022

It was our final Tinkering Tuesday of this year for Apple Class this week. The children worked in pairs to create dioramas which linked to our recent farming adventures and our focus book ‘Rosie’s Walk’. The dioramas they created were of farm animal enclosures, we were very impressed with how the children worked together in their pairs and thought of all the things their farm animal would need in the enclosure. Once the farm animal dioramas were finished they were displayed together to create a fantastic farm scene. Later in the week the children explored the work of local artist Natasha Clutterbuck who creates paints from natural pigments and uses them to paint seasonal fruit, flowers and vegetables. The children created their own natural paints using spinach, berries and mud and then used charcoal to sketch onions, potatoes, redcurrants, and bay leaves. Once the children had finished their charcoal sketches they used the paints they had made to add colour to their sketches. The children are proving to be great artists, demonstrating great observational skills and thinking carefully about form and colour. The wonderful paintings they created will be exhibited in our end of term art exhibition!
