Remembrance Day

November 13, 2022

This week was a very special time in Holly Class as we took time to pause and reflect on the many brave solidiers who have given their life for our country. As usual the children were sensitive and thoughtful in their responses, making links to prior learning both in reception and in their past experiences. Some of their comments included ‘we wear purple poppies to rememer the animals that died’. ‘We give money to help the Soldiers’. ‘There were soldiers in WW1 and WW2’. ‘On Downing Street there is a statue for the first ever soldier’. ‘The poppies grew in the fields where the soldiers died’. We learnt about Remembrance day in many different ways, through short pieces of film, researching in books, art and design opportunities and exploring history. The children really enjoyed finding out more and understanding the real importance of the poppy. Well done Holly Class you did us proud as usual!
