Term 5 – Our Wonderful World
May 30, 2023
Term 5 really has been a wonderful adventure across the globe. We started off in Antarctica using the book Lost and Found as a prompt. Ben the Penguin suddenly arrived one day with a note and the children needed to work our where he had come from and what kind of penguin he was. The children are always keen researchers so loved this. They soon realised there were only three or four countries it might be and after a few more clues worked out that it was definitely the Antarctic. They loved learning about penguins their favourite being the Emperor and the Little Blue. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from a lady called Sue who had been to the Antarctic in 1992. She had so much knowledge that she shared as well as many amazing photos. As the term progressed we went on to learn about all the Continents and the many animals that lived there. From this a love of Top Trumps developed and they spent over two weeks developing their own version of the game using a world map. It was wonderful to see the children show off all that they had learnt in the class assebly at the end of term. Alongside our topic it was such a busy term. We celebrated Eid with Aaliyah becoming teacher for the day and sharing so much of her life at home with the children. We also celebrated the King’s Coronation – which we couldn’t let go by without a big celebration. Unfortunatley our picnic was rained off but the children still got to enjoy and amazing day! We also had our amazing trip to slimbridge which the children loved, our stream walking trip out which was soo much fun! Also every Monday of the term we visited the juniors after discovering the frog spawn in the pond. Its been lovely watching them change and grow (they are currently starting to grow legs so we will keep visiting next term!) We couldn’t share term 5 without talking about the class’ determination to create a working marble run this term. They have worked tirelessly to create a marble run using loose parts and it took them 4 weeks but they mastered it! It really was a magical moment and they are now using what they have learnt to help refine and develop their more complex marble runs! Amazing work Holly Class!
