Caterpillar Lifecycle Art

May 14, 2022

This week we have been looking closely at pictures of the lifecycle of the caterpillar and using these pictures to inspire our own artwork.  One of the things that we are most proud of in our setting is the use of loose parts rather than traditional toys to develop a greater sense of creativity and more open ended learning opportunities for our children. We think this was really evident this week where the children came up with an amazing range of creative and innovative ideas that showed not only an innate sense of  how to really look closely at an object and capture the lines, shapes and patterns that they see but also that even at a young age that difficult concepts such a symmetry and pattern can be introduced and explored.

We are going to continue pour exploration next week focusing more on butterflies and recreating symmetry – encouraging children to reflect on their creations and how to make them even better. We can’t wait to see what they create!
