Term 2 – The Elves and the Shoemaker and Learning about Different Celebrations

December 20, 2023

Magic really has been brought to Holly Class this term thanks to some special visitors – tiny little elves. They appeared in class one day in order to help the shoe maker fix some shoes: Much to the delight of the children who loved learning all about the story but even more so fell in love with these lovely characters. They quickly busied themselves making lots of presents for the elves and writing letters to them; they even sewed them shoes and made them clothes. Imagine how upset they became when they disappeard one day! This led to an amazing writing stimulus with the children writing amazing missing posters which we used to help find the elves and thankfully it worked! Alongside this we also spent the term learning about many different celebrations and impportant events that occur in the UK including Diwali, Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night and Advent: We even visited the local church to learn more about the Creation Story. It has been lovely exploring the different celebrations and events with the children; helping them to learn about similarities and differences between their own beliefs and that of others. As usual they were full of exciting and insightful questions easily making links between their own experiences and that of their friends.
