A journey to Space!

January 5, 2023

We have had a fantastic few days back at school to start our new term and new topic.
We have been Historians, Artists, Scientists and Mathematicians!

The children had to look at some historical sources, including photos, newspaper articles and some video footage, to try to work out the important event from history that occurred and the person involved.
They discovered we would be learning about the moon landing and found out about Neil Armstrong, the first person to step foot on the moon.

They worked together to create some beautiful artwork using oil pastels. They had to look closely at a picture of a planet and try to recreate a version of it. We were all really impressed with the finished results and after researching the order of the planets in relation to the sun,  we displayed them in our classroom in the correct order.

The children were surprised to find some very interesting space rocks that had been sent to our classroom by the scientists at NASA.
They worked in groups to classify the rocks into different groups, deciding if they were Moon rocks, Venus rocks, Mars rocks, etc.
They then used a block graph to record their findings, counting how many of each type they found and answering questions about the data they found.

What a super fun start to the term we’ve had! Have a look at the video to find out more…
