Nurture
At Broomhill Infants, we are proud to offer a dedicated nurture provision that supports the social, emotional and mental wellbeing of our children. We understand that children's learning is most effective when they feel safe, valued, and understood. Nurture is a short term intervention where children have individual targets to meet their needs. Our nurture approach is rooted in the Six Principles of Nurture, which guide everything we do:
- Children's learning is understood developmentally
We recognise that all children are unique and develop at their own pace. Our nurture provision meets children where they are emotionally and socially, offering tailored support that helps them thrive both in and out the classroom.
- The classroom offers a safe base
Our nurture room is a calm, welcoming space where children feel secure and cared for. It's a place where they can build trust, express their feelings, and develop confidence.
- The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing
Positive relationships are at the heart of our nurture provision. We create a consistent and supportive environment that helps children feel understood, accepted, and valued.
- Language is a vital means of communication
We encourage children to talk about their feelings and experiences, and we model positive communication. This helps children build emotional literacy and the ability to express themselves appropriately.
- All behaviour is communication
We view behaviour as a way children express unmet needs or emotions. Our approach is understanding and non-judgemental, helping children learn more positive ways to manage their feelings and actions.
- The importance of transitions in children's lives
We understand that changes whether big or small can be challenging. Our nurture provision supports children through transitions, whether that's starting school, moving class, or facing changes at home.
Our nurture team works closely with class teachers, families, and external agencies to ensure that ever child receives the support they need. We believe that by nurturing the whole child, we are laying the foundations for happy, confident learners who are ready to succeed.
