Year 1 - Maple
Welcome to Maple Class!
In Maple Class we are kind, inquisitive and enthusiastic learners who love to work as a team and help each other. We always encourage each other to try our best and never give up, even when things are tricky. We love being creative by drawing or building new things and we enjoy spending time outdoors.
Along with following a planned curriculum the children are also encouraged to explore their own interests and continue their learning through play.
Miss Dickson, Miss Sharon and Miss Tanya support the children with this, scaffolding and extending their learning within their chosen areas. This may take place in the classroom, in our shelters or outdoor areas, which we love to spend time exploring in all weathers.
Miss Dickson, the class teacher, loves reading and likes to share interesting books with everyone. She likes listening to live music, dancing and swimming.
Miss Sharon, the class LSA, loves reading stories, cooking and enjoys spending time with her new granddaughter. Miss Tanya loves cooking and cosy evenings snuggled up with a good book.
We have two PE sessions each week; children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.
We have weekly Forest School sessions which are either on school site or in the local area- Eastwood Farm or Nightingale Valley.
Each child will have reading books matched to their individual phonic ability and reading level. It is important your child practices their reading at home; little and often is better than a whole book once a week. Just 5-10 minutes every day will have a huge impact on your child’s progress and confidence and is the most important thing you can do at home to help your child with their learning.
All children have Bug Club (for phonics and reading), Doodle Maths and Purple Mash logins so they are able to use these apps in school and at home.
